Okay, who here still buys simple syrup at the store? Well hopefully after reading this blog post you’ll realize you don’t need to anymore! It’s called simple syrup for a reason, because it’s just so dang simple to make! Once you start, you’ll most likely always have a jar in your fridge. Have fun and get creative with your herbs and spices!
Cinnamon simple syrup goes great with cocktail drinks but also with coffee! There are plenty of ways you can make simple syrups but they’re all very similar, this is just the way I make it.
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 water
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan over high heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved and mixture is clear.
- Reduce heat and add cinnamon sticks. Once liquid begins to turn a darker color remove from heat.
- Store in an airtight, glass container with cinnamon sticks and place in the refrigerator.
I tend to leave the cinnamon sticks in the jar but feel free to remove them after 2-3 hours if you feel like the simple syrup has enough of that cinnamon taste. Also, if you want to make more or less, just use a 1 to 1 ratio with sugar and water.
I promise you, once you make your first jar of simple syrup, there will always be some sort of delicious syrup in your fridge. Don’t forget to let me know what you use with this simple syrup! Get creative and have fun!
